A modern 2 megawatt wind turbine will supply the electricity needs of around 1,000 households. |

Our dependence on electricity and other forms of energy continues to grow at an alarming rate
- we are reliant on it for our very existence, let alone allowing us to live in the comfort and style we are accustomed to.
It is true that modern appliances are becoming more energy efficient but it is also true that the
average household has many more appliances than a few years ago (such as DVD players, multiple
TVs, tumble dryers and computers).
Given the depleting global resources of fossil fuels, this growth in energy consumption can only
be met by increased energy efficiency measures and new, modern forms of power generation.
Simply put, time is running out and there is an increasing urgency to shift our reliance to a source
of power that is sustainable, local and planet-friendly.
Renewable energy, and wind in particular, is currently the only form of power generation that can
have an immediate impact on the energy crisis that is facing us all. Precise cost comparisons
are hard to make but in most cases and on good sites the cost of electricity generated from wind
is now easily comparable with other forms of electricity generation, especially when the full environmental impact of fossil fuel or nuclear waste disposal is taken into account. |
